Portfolio > CAPTAIN

My current project "Captain" is a multimedia composition that utilizes acrylic paint, oil paint, ink, and screen printing on paper that toys with the idea of commodification and Guy Debord's theory of the spectacle vs. the spectator. The relabeling of the images are in response to the integrating of Captain America with Kohl's advertisement models, screen prints of images from a catalogue of Robert Mapplethorpe's auction of belongings, text, and street cones .The use of materials in my work are calculated; the mediums inform the context of the composition. The use of screen printing carries the concept of mass production for the purpose of displaying purely conceptual ideas, whereas the use of oil painting and ink drawing alludes to the visibility of the artists' connection.
